Summer Events

Some events you won’t want to miss

Northern Michigan is like one big theme park in the summer, chock full of art fairs, beaches, scenic rivers, folk fests, marinas, you name it. Some of those are covered elsewhere in this issue. Here’s the best of the rest.

SUMMER-LONG:
Tuesdays & Fridays: concerts at 12:15 p.m. in Pennsylvania Park, Petoskey through the summer.
Wednesdays: Evenings on River Street, music & fun in Elk Rapids.
Thursdays: Alden Evening Stroll.
Saturdays: Stone Circle Poetry Readings, 9 pm, north of Elk Rapids.

JUNE
23-24 - Bay Harbor Concours d’Elegance -- classic cars and wooden boats.
22-24 - Straits Area Antique Auto Show, St. Ignace. Said to be the largest car show in America with every kind of vehicle you can imagine.
24 - Taste of the North, Petoskey Bayfront Park. Hosted by the Little Traverse Historical Society, including a taste from 20 area restaurants.
24 -- Strawberry Festival with shortcake and sundaes, Empire.
24 -- Art Rapids! art fair in Elk Rapids.
25 -- Olde Towne Arts & Crafts Fair, TC.
26 - Crooked Tree Arts Center Home Tour.

JULY
1-2 - Petoskey Summer Antiques Festival at the Emmet County Fairgrounds.
2 -- Cherry Festival Arts Fair, downtown TC.
1-8 - National Cherry Festival, TC, including the Blue Angels, Cherry Royale Parade and the Meijer Festival of Races.
4 - Harbor Springs Art Fair in Zorn Park.
4 - Horton Bay Parade -- funniest in the state.
6-9 -- Cedar Polka Festival, dancing, beer & brats under a big top tent.
7 - Steppin’ in It performs at the Michigan Legacy Art Park, Crystal Mountain, 7 pm.
7-9 - Blissfest Music Festival brings together 5,000 folkies in a field near Cross Village.
8 - Beulah Art Fair.
8-9 - Charlevoix Crafts Show with 200 exhibitors.
12 - Women’s Club Art Festival at Nubs Nob, Harbor Springs.
12-16 & 19-23 -- Horse Shows by the Bay brings hundreds of hoofers to TC for equestrian jumping and contests.
14 - Alden Wine Tasting & Jazz Concert.
14 - Duck Soup performs at the Michigan Legacy Art Park, Crystal Mountain, 7 pm.
14-16 - Shay Days in Harbor Springs offers a railroad trip to the past through the life of Ephraim Shay, inventor of the Shay locomotive.
15 - Elk Rapids Arts & Creafts Show.
15 - Elberta Arts & Crafts Fair.
15 - Petoskey Art in the Park offers 100 exhibitors in Pennsylvania Park.
15-16 - Empire Anchor Days.
17 -- Manitou Music Festival Dune Climb Concert, featuring the Greencards at the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore.
20 - Laurie Sears Quintet performs at the Michigan Legacy Art Park, Crystal Mountain, 7 pm.
21 - Friday Night Live streetfest, TC.
21-23 - Arcadia Daze.
16-22 - Charlevoix Venetian Fesitval, includes parade, carnival and boat parade.
27 - Grand Traverse Pipes & Drums at the Michigan Legacy Art Park, Crystal Mountain, 7 pm.
29 -- Friday Night Live jazz night, downtown TC.
29 - Suttons Bay Jazzfest features Bob James.
28-29 - Petoskey Sidewalk Sales.
28-30 - Little Traverse Bay Regatta brings 100 sailboats to race in Harbor Springs.

6 - Coastal Crawl: Swim race from 1-3 miles at Zorn Park Beach in Harbor Springs.

18 - Cruise Night features hot rods of the past at A&W Drive-in, Frankfort.
