Grizzled Green Day

Nov. 22, 2006
Way back in 1991 and 1992, respectively, Green Day’s first two albums,
1,039 and Kerplunk! were released on Lookout! Records, and both albums are
now set for reissue on Reprise Records coming up this December 19.
Kerplunk! appears just as it did back in ‘92, but 1,039 will duplicate a
set of extra content that was included on the disc’s previous 2004
re-release, which featured 20 minutes of live performance footage,
handwritten lyrics, a radio interview, and various posters. To really get
an idea of how far Green Day have come, consider that their 1994
major-label release has now sold 7.8 million copies in the U.S., while
Kerplunk! has only sold 699,000...

The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Gnarls Barkley will hit the road early in
2007 for a co-headlining tour that’s set to play mostly in arenas. The
first set of dates will kick off on January 12 in Oklahoma City, followed
by plenty of additional dates across the country.  The Peppers will follow
up this tour with a run later in the year through Australia and Europe in
order to support their ninth album, Stadium Arcadium, which was released
back in May, while Barkley is promoting his debut disc, St. Elsewhere, the
album known for the mega-hit “Crazy,” which has crossed genres and been
covered by a variety of fellow musicians.  Both performers will close 2006
with a Los Angeles New Years show that will also feature The Flaming
Lips...

And Aussie singer Kylie Minogue has made a welcome return to the stage,
healthy and revitalized after going through extensive treatment for
cancer.  Appearing last Saturday at the Sydney Entertainment Center, a
decked-out-in-feathers-and-sequins Minogue was welcomed with an
emotional extended standing ovation, and performed plenty of her hits in
addition to a new song (“White Diamond”) co-written with the Scissor
Sisters. Minogue fans attending her additional show the next day were
treated to a surprise appearance by U2’s Bono, who joined his pal Kylie
onstage for a version of the song “Kids”...
