The Truth Within Cartoons

Thank you, Northern Express, for printing the current cartoons by both Jen Sorensen and Tom the Dancing Bug by Ruben Bolling!

I am hoping that all classes, all colors, and all the people in America that see these two cartoons will realize the truth that is contained in them!

This is what is actually happening. And it will lead to the loss of our sovereignty, our rule based on the U.S. Constitution, more jobs transferred to other countries, and America being run even more so by transnational corporations that hold no allegiance to the United States of America! All Lives Matter!

Greg Haske, Gaylord

Faith and Politics: A Recipe for Disaster

Government, religion, and ultra conservative politics is an alliance that if it stays the present course will be the demise of our great republic.

History reinforces this hypothesis: Churches in southern states that promoted slavery, the Spanish Inquisition, the unadmitted, cozy relationship between the Catholic Church (Pius XII) and the German Nationalist Socialist Party, to name a few.

More recent examples: U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Hobby Lobby can deny female employees’ reproductive health care based on religious beliefs. The Michigan legislature passed and Snyder shamefully signed the new adoption law, obviously motivated by religious faith. These adoption agencies will be drawing public funds"¦our tax dollars. Think about states like Texas, which bends over backwards to skirt legal abortion laws by heaping impossible restrictions on health clinics that serve thousands of people. There used to be hundreds of clinics; now there is just a handful. These restrictions are in place because the Texas majority in Congress does not believe in abortions due to religious beliefs.

Don’t forget one of our own county commissioners who allows his religion to obstruct sound governance, stating that if people stayed married there wouldn’t be a housing affordability problem.

It’s time for organized religion to beat a hasty retreat, kick back, and let the 40 million Nones -- a rapidly growing population in our country -- have our rights. You do not have the right to use our government, our tax dollars, and court system to selfishly promote your beliefs that negatively affect millions of lives.

I quote the Nobel Prize winning author Sinclair Lewis: "When Fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross."
