Traverse City Film Festival

July 24, 2015

DOUG LOVES TC

Hey, Traverse City Friends, I'm excited to be coming back for my third TCFF! Of course I'll be doing my Doug Loves Movies podcast again this year, and hopefully this time I won't have to throw one of my guests off the stage! And The Benson Movie Interruption was such a blast last year when we watched "Road House," I decided to double (deuce) down and interrupt two movies this year: the Tom Cruise blockbuster "Top Gun," and, since that will make you "feel the need for speed," we might as well follow it up with the Keanu Reeves classic "Speed!" So join me for three fun shows, and I'll join you for lots of great movies that I promise not to interrupt! –Doug Benson

NEW MEDIA

The WOZ

Focus on the future of storytelling inside our all-free-all-the-time venue, The Buzz at InsideOut Gallery. Just walk on in any time from 12 noon to 9 pm Wednesday through Saturday and visit The Woz, where we showcase interactive transmedia experiences that explore the expansion of cinema and gaming culture. We’ve partnered with Michigan State University to bring a showcase of media projects that go beyond traditional screens to the place where film and technology intersect and you are part of the story–where the magic of your presence changes everything.

{THE AND} GAME LIVE

This interactive social experiment explores the labyrinths of human intimacy and lets the audience be both participant and viewer. Using a self-selecting method of audience participation and minimal technology, {THE AND} Game Live helps you rethink how we connect with others. Play in the theater during free, ticketed events Friday at 6:30 pm and Saturday at 9:30 pm, or grab a friend, partner, or significant other, and play the game privately any time in the gallery.

KILLER QUEEN

Bring your friends and compete for joystick supremacy in the world’s only ten-player arcade game. Two teams, each led by a powerful Queen, face off to be the first to bring the giant snail god home (yes, you get to ride a giant snail), fill their hive with nectar, or assassinate the enemy Queen. You can also check out the DreamAuthentics arcade, chock full of thousands of titles worth of retro gaming goodness.

OCULUS RIFT

The Rift is unlike anything you’ve ever encountered. Whether you’re experiencing the thrills of a virtual rollercoaster, immersing yourself in interactive film, or playing virtual reality games, you’ll feel like you’re really there. Just put on the head-mounted glasses and get an early look at a technology that will transform gaming and film as we know them. The consumer version is expected in early 2016, but you can step into the Rift now at The Woz.

VENUE BOX OFFICES

Each of our indoor festival movie theaters has its own fully-functioning box office. Venue box offices open one hour before the first film of the day and stay open through the start of the last show. You can pick up or purchase tickets at any of these convenient venue box office locations.

WILL CALL

Tickets held at will call can be picked up at any time in our Main Box Office or in any of our festival movie theater box offices.

STANDBY ONLY

Nothing is ever sold out at the TCFF! If a show is listed as "standby only," a standby ticket line will form one hour before the screening. So even if you hear that a show is sold out, our experience tells us that a few seats will open up. Most of the time, the entire standby line is seated.

VOUCHERS

Vouchers are good for any regular $12 movie and take you to the front of the standby line. 2015 vouchers will be honored in 2016.
