Potential Indicators of Trafficking Victims

Any adult having these indicators could be a victim of sexual trafficking:
1. Not free to leave or come and go as he/ she pleases
2. Works excessively long hours, paid through tips
3. Owes large debt and is unable to pay it off
4. Recruited through false pretenses concerning the nature and condition of work
5. High security exists including opaque windows, boarded up windows, bars on windows, security cameras
6. Large number of people living in the house and there is a spokesperson for the group
7. Is fearful, anxious, depressed, tense or nervous
8. Avoids eye contact
9. Has few or no personal possessions
10. Is not in control of own money or identification documents
11. Not allowed to speak for themselves
12. Numerous inconsistencies in his/her stories
13. If a foreign national, their visa/ passport has been taken from them for “safekeeping”
14. Unable to give street address of residence where they live
