Benishek Doesn’t Understand

Congressman Benishek claims to understand the needs of families, yet he wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which would cause about 10 million people to lose their health insurance. He must think as long as families can hold fundraisers they don’t need insurance...

(Un)Truth In Advertising

Constant political candidate ads on TV are getting to be too much to bear 45 days before the election...

Rare Tuttle Rebuttal

Finally, I disagree with Stephen Tuttle. His “Cherry Bomb” column in the 8/4/14 issue totally dismayed me. I always love his wit and the slamming of the 1 percent. His use of fact and hyperbole highlights the truth; until “Cherry Bomb.” Oh man, Stephen...

Say No To Fluoride

Do you or your child’s teeth have white, yellow, orange, brown, stains, spots, streaks, cloudy splotches or pitting? If so, you may be among millions of Americans who now have a condition called dental fluorosis...

Questions Of Freedom

The administration’s “Affordable Health Care Act” has ordered religious orders to provide contraception and chemical abortions against the church’s God given beliefs and teachings … an interesting order, considering the First Amendment’s clear prohibitions...

Stop The Insults & Talk

I found it interesting that Ms. Minervini used the Northern Express to push the Safe Harbor agenda for a 90-bed homeless shelter in Traverse City with a tactic that is also being utilized by members of the city commission. Those of us who oppose the project are being labeled as uncompassionate citizens...

Roads and Republicans

Each time you hit a road crater while driving, thank the “nerd” and the Tea Party controlled Republican legislature.

Kristi Kates - May 16th, 2011
Stripes Look Back at Mississippi, Minnesota Shows
The White Stripes themselves may now be defunct, but there’s still some Stripes music left to be heard (and seen), starting with an album recording of their last complete live performance from back in July of 2007. Dubbed Live in Mississippi, the disc will be released in both CD and vinyl formats, and will include the duo performing several covers in addition to their own setlist. A live DVD of one of the band’s year 2000 shows will also be released around the same time; titled Moorhead Lights All Fargo Night, this one showcases the Stripes performing at a small bar in Minnesota. Additional releases are expected…
Paul McCartney is reportedly working on a new album, this one set to feature guest bands and artists covering McCartney’s own solo material as well as additional songs by his band, Wings. Macca is said to be personally choosing the musicians that will be performing the covers, and has so far snagged B.B. King, Billy Joel, and Paul Rodgers, among others. McCartney’s musician son, James, is going to appear on the album, as well…
Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr is wrapping up his three-year gig with band The Cribs, saying via his website that he’s departing from the band “on good terms,” that they remain friends, and that he will instead be working on his new solo records, planning to release a couple of albums over the next year. Marr explained how working with The Cribs was “fantastic,” but that he now needs the time for himself, his own projects, and some additional film soundtrack work…

And a couple of bits of LCD Soundsystem-related news this week; first of all, their final concert (at Madison Square Garden in NYC last April) is set for release as a DVD, which frontman James Murphy says will be properly edited and “much nicer” than the live stream that went out from the original show. In addition, a still-busy Murphy himself has been tapped for a high-profile DJ set at the upcoming Sonar Music Festival (June 16-18 in Barcelona, Spain), and will DJ again at Sonar Galicia that same weekend…

Two old Weezer outtakes have shown up on the radar via Weezer drummer Pat Wilson, namely the first full-band performance versions of “You Won’t Get with Me Tonight” and “I Swear It’s True”…
