Pete Yorn’s New Album To Hit Stores in June
Pete Yorn has decided to work with a pair of producers for his next album, namely Saddle Creek’s Mike Mogis and Grammy-winner Rick Rubin. Yorn began the album process by writing the lyrics first this time, then recording the album in Nebraska, bringing in a group of skilled musicians as opposed to doing all of the instrumental work himself, as he’s done on previous albums. This time around, he collaborated with the talents of Beck drummer Joey Waronker, The Faint pianist Nate Wolcott, and guitarist Jonny Polonsky, among others; the new album, Back and Forth, is due out on June 23 on Columbia Records, with Yorn planning to tour in support of the set...
Elvis Costello just wrapped work on a new album, too, with producer T Bone Burnett; Costello’s album will also be out in June, albeit a little earlier (June 1), and was recorded at Nashville’s Sound Emporium Studio in just three days. Much like Yorn, Costello worked with a small but talented cast of musicians, including Stuart Duncan, Mike Compton, and Jerry Douglas; and he co-wrote two songs with Burnett himself, “Sulphur to Sugarcane” and “The Crooked Line.” Two songs that were originally written for Johnny Cash were also reinvented for Costello’s album with a string band...
Jimi Hendrix’s childhood home was recently dismantled in order to make room for condominium housing, in spite of years of efforts to preserve the house. The site is located across the street from where Hendrix rests, and photos of Hendrix at the house holding his first guitar have appeared on Hendrix reissue albums. The developer has reportedly saved wood from the house, however - which may be sold and used to build guitars...
And the Rothbury Festival is confirmed to be back for its second summer in Rothbury, Michigan, with festival dates this year running July 2 through the 5. Plenty of acts have already been confirmed for the rustic rock event, too - so far, the lineup includes live sets from Bob Dylan, The Dead, the Black Crowes, Willie Nelson, Damian Marley with Nas, Railroad Earth, Gov’t Mule, Yonder Mountain String Band, and Son Volt...

And celebrating his 55th birthday this month will be veteran guitarist Marc Ribot, known for his own work as well as his collaborations with Los Cubanos Postizos, Ceramic Dog, and the Robert Plant/Alison Krauss project...
