“Snapshots” of Islam Offensive  In his latest effort (Northern Express Nov. 23 - Nov. 29, 2015,) David Kachadurian provides a jumble of FYI disclosures pertaining to Islam and Muslim societies, and posing as if providing a public service announcement, he advises the readers to ponder their import and to “make of them what you will.”

Not Another War To these people who believe we need to be at war in the Middle East all the time: try thinking about getting the countries that are in the area to take care of these bad guys instead of us. We are almost in constant war and have been as long as most can remember...

The Unvaccinated Are Punished Pulling healthy children from school due to a so called “outbreak” of a mild childhood illness isn’t for the safety of the community, as we’re being led to believe. It’s to prove a point that the health department will follow through on their threats to exclude the unvaccinated from all school related events, whenever they see fit...

Intentional Act or Drunken Negligence?

Mystery still shrouds hit and run death of Kellyann Boyce Hurlbert

Features Patrick Sullivan Police reached over 400 tips in the case of the July 5 hit and run death of Kellyann (Boyce) Hurlbert, but all of that information from the public so far hasn’t helped investigators get any closer to solving the case.

Letters Real Support for Single Moms

The ad for the strip club in the June 9 issue was pretty terrible. “Supporting single moms one dollar at a time” is cruel and belittling to the women who have no other option but to strip for a living to feed their kids...

Letters Gas vs Wind

I would like to refute the statistic quoted in Richard Denneaus’s letter in the June 2, 2014 Northern Express. He states that “....the cost to produce electricity from renewable sources is at least double our current costs.”...

What is that giant sucking sound?

It is not the sounds of jobs leaving our country due to the one-way trade agreements. There is not much left of decent jobs to be sucked away. The sucking sound I am referring to is caused by the vacuum of leadership in Lansing...

The 2014 Women of Rock

Music Kristi Kates While the field of women in rock typically turns over more slowly than that of the men (many female artists hold onto their crowns from year to year with few surfacing to challenge them), this year’s list is a pretty solid mix of stalwarts and newcomers.

Letters 12-08-2014

Thanks For Thanksgiving Nice “Thank You” letter by Stephen Tuttle [in the November 24 edition]. Good idea.

Don’t Give A Dog or Cat! The holidays are “the most wonderful time of the year,” but they aren’t a wonderful time to add a new dog, cat, or other animal companion to the family. That’s why it’s important to resist the temptation to give a living, breathing animal as a “gift.”

Invasion of the '80s

Features Kristi Kates

One is a San Francisco glam-punk band whose stage presence includes flashing sunglasses, platform shoes, wild stage antics and questionable lyrics. The other is an alternative power-rock outfit from New Jersey who favors black T-shirts and got its name from a Yosemite Sam catchphrase.

Opposite coasts, and most definitely contradictory approaches to being a band, but you’ll hear similar sounds because they both crafted some of the most familiar songs of ’80s rock radio, which is probably why they’ve hit the road together for their 2015 Rock of the ’80s Tour. They’re making a stop at the Little River Casino Resort this weekend.
