The Economic Club of Traverse City is accepting entries for its annual essay contest. This year’s essay question is: Should the government, at any level, spend taxpayer dollars for early childhood (birth to kindergarten) programs? Discuss the costs & benefits to society of such programs as Head Start, early child development, home visitation, nutrition counseling, etc. First place award is $1,500; second place is $1,000. The contest is open to all high school juniors & seniors in the five-county Grand Traverse region. Deadline to enter is May 1. Essays should be a minimum of 750 words; maximum 1,000 words.
