4. Leelanau Books
Pick up your next beach read at Leelanau Books, an independent bookstore that boasts a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction books. For the outdoor enthusiast, plenty of adventure, guide, and map books are available. Those looking for a little something to take home can also find puzzles, cards, posters, board games, and local interest books.

5. Au Sable
Across the street sits Au Sable, a home goods store that embodies Leland’s coastal roots. Here, you’ll find art, wellness items, throw pillows, blankets, beach umbrellas and chairs, robes, sofas, towels, and interesting items like pepper grinders, incense rolls and holders, and other finishing touches.

6. The Find North
A few steps away is The Find North, a gift shop showcasing local artists alongside favorite brands like Baggu and Beyond Yoga. This shop is a great place to snag a new outfit or accessory, or to pick up some local artwork. A variety of kitchen, home, office, and paper goods rounds out the selection.

7. Two Fish Gallery
As you cross Main Street and head along River Street toward Fishtown and the marina, you’ll pass Two Fish Gallery, a store that’s chock-full of all things Leland. With fun, local art lining the shelves and Leland-themed goodies everywhere, this store is one worth taking your time in. It’s a great spot to pick up a new bag, something for the garden, or a Leland souvenir.

8. The Fish Hook
True to its name, the Fish Hook sells bait and tackle for those headed out on a fishing excursion, plus DNR hunting and fishing licenses. That’s not all, though! The Fish Hook also carries moccasins, sunglasses, and apparel for those who want something to remember their visit, like sweatshirts and shirts with the names of popular nearby lakes and towns on it.

9. Greta’s of Leland
Before you meander through Fishtown, take a stop into Greta’s to explore the collection of cards, jewelry, pillows, and other fun gifts. It’s a great place to find fun and tasteful inventory that changes seasonally (expect some adorable summer finds!) and gift ideas for anyone in your circle.

Fishtown

10. Leelanau Goods
The first shanty you’ll likely encounter in Fishtown is Leelanau Goods, which sits perched above the rest. This clothing and homegoods store is known for curated apparel lineups that vary in theme from coastal to western but always errs on the side of fashionably distinct. In addition to clothing, shoppers can find homeware and shoes.

11. Dam Candy Store
Walking down the stairs into Fishtown, you can’t help but see the Dam Candy Store, a teensy shanty with a big reputation. Step inside to find the walls covered in colorful jars containing all sorts of candy arrayed by type: sours and gummies here, licorice and chocolates over there, taffy in its own space, and a whole section devoted to Jelly Beans. There’s an ice cream counter for those who want a scoop, and classic candy for anyone looking for something specific. You can’t go wrong at this sweet shop!

12. Wild Lettie
Keep walking past the candy store and you’ll spot Wild Lettie, a shop dedicated to keeping outdoors gear for women exciting and lively. Many of the items are designed by owner Annie Lang, incorporating bright colors and bold patterns. Home to bags made with sustainable materials, puffy blankets and sleeping bags, clothing, stickers, camping gear, and more, this store is a dream come true for any outdoorsy woman.

13. Tug Stuff
The iconic Tug Stuff logo features the Janice Sue, an historic tug boat that can still be seen on the docks in Fishtown when not hauling chub for Carlson’s Fishery. The shop has clothing items for everyone, pet items, bags, plus a huge selection of hats, all bearing the eponymous tug logo in green and white.

14. Diversions
If you come around dockside after leaving Tug Stuff, you’ll find Diversions, a store that specializes in hats and has been in operation since 1972. If hats aren’t quite what you’re looking for, the shop also carries mittens, scarves, and other accessories. It’s well worth a stop into this long-lived legend. You never know, you might even find the perfect cap!

15. Haystacks
Haystacks is a northern Michigan women’s clothing staple. Some fan favorites include the reversible skirts and dresses (with the trademark wavy hemline), the Leelanau Cotton sweatshirts, the pants, and the shirts. The accessories and other items are also noteworthy, but it’s the Haystacks line itself that’s really worth trying on and taking home.

16. Mit.Shanty
All the way at the water’s edge you’ll find the Mit.Shanty, next to the fishing charters. This gift shop may look small, but there’s more than meets the eye, here: inside, shoppers can find a whole array of unique items, gifts, souvenirs, apparel, greeting cards, and Leland and Manitou Transit-specific gifts.
