A Splash of Summer Fun

The waters of Lake Michigan are still a bit too chilly for swimming, though they’re perfect for dipping your toes in and then scampering back as you laugh (or scream). Still, the Tip of the Mitt Watershed knows that warmer days are coming, so they’re putting on their Summer Celebration on Saturday, June 6, at the Watershed Discovery Center from 12-2pm. All ages are welcome for hands-on activities, educational science, and beachy crafts. You can even meet Fin Diesel, a lake sturgeon who lives with other aquatic animals in the nonprofit’s stream tank exhibits! Per their mission statement, the Watershed Council’s work focuses on “local water quality monitoring and pollution prevention, invasive species management, shoreline restoration, education, and much more.” Find the center at 426 Bay St. in Petoskey, and learn more about the event at watershedcouncil.org/event/summer-celebration-2026.
