Art Against the Current

“In a culture driven by productivity and profit, the arts move differently, traveling upstream to protect what is human, inclusive, and deeply rooted in community.” So says the mission for the Northwest Michigan Arts and Culture Summit, held May 14-15 in Traverse City at venues like City Opera House and Hotel Indigo. The summit is geared toward folks employed by arts nonprofits as well as working artists—though anyone in the creative community is welcome to attend—and will offer keynote speeches, practical workshops, live performances, and more over the course of two days. Expect conversations on topics like self-publishing, the role of arts in mental health, and art in times of trauma. Registration is $175+ fees for the public, $120+ fees for NWMIARTS members, and $25 for students. (You can also register for Friday only!)
