Petoskey Stones and Morel Mushrooms

This weekend, we celebrate two quintessential northern Michigan favorites: the Petoskey stone and the morel mushroom! Rock hounds will head to Barnes Park Campground in Eastport for the 20th annual Petoskey Stone Festival, a free and family-friendly event that runs from 10am-4pm on May 16. Expect live music, craft vendors, and on-site food trucks alongside a celebration of our state stone. Details at petoskeystonefestival.com. To the north, the 66th annual National Morel Mushroom Festival starts May 14 with the opening of Schmidt Amusements Carnival and ends May 17 in Boyne City. In between are an arts and crafts show, a competitive mushroom hunt, and the Taste of Morels showstopper with local chefs whipping up seasonal dishes. Don’t miss other events, like painting activities for kids and adults or the Motherload Bash concert from 7-11pm on Saturday. See the full schedule at bcmorelfestival.com.
