Seeing Double with Great Lakes Humane Society
Stuff We Love
According to the Shelter Animals Count (a program of the ASPCA), total pet adoptions in the U.S. reached 4.2 million animals in 2025, a 0.7 percent increase from 2024. That may not sound like much, but that means nearly 300,000 more animals found their forever homes! Great Lakes Humane Society in Traverse City is trying to keep the good vibes going, and they’ve been getting artistic when it comes to promoting dog adoptions. To help shelter pets find their forever families, local artist and GLHS volunteer Carrie Betlyn-Eder has been creating papier-mâché replicas of adoptable pups. (Pictured here is Pongo meeting his double.) More of Betlyn-Eder’s works are featured at her Burdickville Studio. Scope out the adoptable cats and dogs at greatlakeshs.com, and Betlyn-Eder’s art at carriebetlyneder.com.
