Shades of Us

Shades of Us, an exhibit by students of Leland Public School and Leelanau Children’s Center that celebrates the people in our area and fosters conversation about diversity, was inspired by the work of Brazilian photographer Angélica Dass, who created a photography project called “Humanae” to challenge thoughts on ethnic identity and skin color. Kristy Fisher, LPS kindergarten teacher, spearheaded the project, while LPS art teacher Lani Hoenscheid-Smith worked with the students. The exhibit runs April 8-24 at the Old Art Building in Leland, with the exception of Easter weekend.
