The Long Memory Project: Farmland

Nonprofit Crosshatch Center for Art & Ecology is the driving force behind The Long Memory Project, an artist residency program designed to “cultivate the passing down of our community’s stories” to help us “understand where we came from, who we are, and what we envision for our future.” The first year, 2018, was focused on Activism and the little-known social and environmental issues of Michigan’s past. The second year, 2024, centered on Pride, featuring stories from our LGBTQ+ community. This year’s theme is Farmland, with “elders who have ties to the state’s farming history” working in collaboration with MSU’s Broad Art Museum’s farmland exhibition. Artists did their residency in summer 2025, and on April 24, The Alluvion in Traverse City will host the opening of the exhibit from 5-8pm. (Entry is free, but registration is required.)
