Wildwood Harbor Nature Area Expands
Earlier this month, the Walloon Lake Association and Conservancy announced that they purchased an additional 30 acres of land—including forest and wetland habitat—as part of their Wildwood Harbor Nature Area. The nature area was established in 1998 and is now 133.5 acres, with hiking trails and opportunities for other outdoor recreation. The new purchase was made up of two adjoining parcels in the southern portion of the Walloon Lake watershed, and will be called the Hyde-Young Preserve and Dingman Preserve in honor of the parcels’ previous owners. Per a press release, the additional land will connect “Wildwood Harbor Nature Area with Ellis Woods Preserve and Unni’s Forest Preserve. Together, these properties now form a contiguous 285-acre block of protected land owned and managed by WLAC.” Learn more at walloon.org.
