Tastemakers: Film Fest Mid Fest Party - Stella Artois

Holiday Inn West Bay Patio
Film Festival Mid-Fest Party

For locals the Holiday Inn Patio along West Bay has been a Friday night tradition for years. The patio parties feature Luther Gravy & The Soul Biscuits and The Horn Dogs flip-flopping Fridays with both performing all those great summer weather classics. This is one of the best places in the region to enjoy a cocktail and watch the sunset. So when Traverse City Film Festival organizers were looking for a groovy place along the bay to host one of the parties, the Holiday Inn was a no-brainer. On Thursday night, August 3, the Patio will be the place to be to rub shoulders and talk movies with other Film Festival attendees and VIPs. Local blues and zydeco band Betsy Baye & The Groove Engine will keep the dance floor hopping.
The culinary team at the Holiday Inn is offering a wide range of epicurean treats that will be included in the ticket price. Look for the Pleva’s Smoked Cherry Kielbasa and the fried ravioli as the favorites of the night. Expect the triple chocolate fountains to be a hit as well. Space is limited for this party and tickets are selling quickly. To purchase tickets or for additional information on this and other events visit www.tcfilmfest.org or call the box office 231-929-1506. The Holiday Inn West Bay Patio will keep on partying all summer long; they also have entertainment other nights for a complete schedule visit

Stella Artois

Beer has often played a supporting role in the movies, from the tavern scenes of the old westerns to the beer bong parties of the 1980 college flick genre. One of the all time great brew lines came from the 1986 film “Blue Velvet” when Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper) asked his neighbor what kind of beer he drank, when the response came back “Heineken” Hopper’s character responded: “Heineken? F**k that shit! Pabst Blue Ribbon!” Now Belgium-brewed Stella Artois has made the occasional cameo in films. Their advertising campaign in Europe has long imitated European cinema to portray the beer as “sophisticated.”
Figuring that “sophisticated types” will be out in numbers, Stella Artois has stepped up and become one of the sponsors at the 2006 Traverse City Film Festival. Look for Stella around town and at the Hagerty Center for the opening night party of the Film Festival (www.traversecityfilmfestival.com) where this Euro-pilsner plans to rub elbows with the celebs and locally sophisticates. Stella does have some film connections. In England if pub goers ask for a “wifebeater” the barkeeps serve Stella. Stella Artois received the nickname from the famed 1951 film “A Street Car Named Desire,” when the character Stanley Kowalski (played by Marlon Brando) shouts to his wife Stella after having beaten her. Probably not something Stella uses for marketing. They would rather have replaced Pabst Blue Ribbon in that line from “Blue Velvet,” as Stella is often compared to the German brew. Stella Artois is a refreshing summer thirst quencher and is a great way to celebrate after a day at the movies.
