Interlochen looks ahead to Fall
With summer halfway over, Interlochen Center for the Arts has announced
its fall/winter schedule, a blend of music, dance and theater.
Here’s what to expect between September and May:

Guster • September 2 • Kresge Auditorium
Offering indie pop; now in its 15th year, the band is a perennial favorite
with the 20-something set.

Jackson Browne • September 23
Kresge Auditorium
One of the most noteworthy singer-songwriters of the late ’60s-’70s,
Jackson Browne will perform a solo acoustic show.

Mat Kearney September 27 • Corson Auditorium
Expect catchy folk/pop from this critically acclaimed singer-songwriter
who has toured with John Mayer, Sheryl Crow and The Fray; headlined VH1’s
first “You Oughta Know Tour”; and had the Top-40 hit “Breathe In, Breathe
Out” featured on “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Sphinx Virtuosi September 28 • Corson Auditorium
The Sphinx Virtuosi is an ensemble of top alumni of the national Sphinx
Competition for young Black and Latino string players. The ensemble
performs masterpieces by Bach, Tchaikovsky and Mozart alongside works by
composers of color.

IAA “Collage” • October 6 & 7 Corson Auditorium
A sampler of student performances encompassing music, dance, theatre,
creative writing, visual arts and film.

Joe Lovano’s Us Five • October 26 Corson Auditorium
Grammy-winning saxophonist Joe Lovano’s new quintet featuring Esperanza
Spalding, Francisco Mela, Otis Brown III and James Weidman, won “Best
Small Ensemble of the Year” at the 2010 and 2011 Jazz Journalists
Association’s Jazz Awards and was named “Best Jazz Group” in both the 2010
and 2011 DownBeat Critics Polls.

Dominick Farinacci & Aaron diehl
Nov. 3 • Dendrinos Chapel
Trumpeter Dominick Farinacci has won the Carmine Caruso International Jazz
Trumpet Competition and Japan’s “International New Star Award.”

Yonder Mountain String Band November 4 • Corson Auditorium
The Yonder Mountain String Band bridges the gap between traditional
bluegrass and jam band music.

“Cabaret” • November 17, 18 & 19 • Harvey Theatre Thursday & Friday,
7:30pm; Saturday, 2pm & 7:30pm
Student performance of the hijinx at the seedy Kit Kat Klub in Berlin,
prior to World War II.

“The Nutcracker” December 8, 9 & 10 • Corson Auditorium
The Interlochen Dance Company and Orchestra present the holiday classic.

A Tribute to
Stan Kenton
December 15 • Corson Auditorium
Interlochen Jazz Ensemble and guest Mike Vax pay tribute to the master.

Kevin Cobb
January 20 • Corson Auditorium
A member of the prestigious American Brass Quintet since 1998, trumpeter
Kevin Cobb performs with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, New York
Philharmonic and New York City Ballet Orchestra.

The Magic School Bus LIVE: ”The Climate Challenge”
February 24 • Corson Auditorium
The Magic School Bus celebrates its 25th anniversary with a new musical
adventure. Ms. Frizzle’s students are putting on a play about global
warming, so the Friz and her reptilian sidekick take the class on a
whirlwind tour from the arctic to the equator to get some cold, hard
facts.

Alonzo King LINES Ballet •
February 28 • Corson Auditorium
Draws on deeply rooted cultural traditions to imbue classical ballet with
new expressive potential.

IAA 50th Anniversary Celebra-tion Concert
March 18 • Corson Auditorium
Celebrating the nation’s first – and remains its foremost – fine arts
boarding high school.

“West Side Story” • May 11 • Corson Auditorium
The Jets meet the Sharks in this student production which adapted
Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.”
