Enjoying The CloveRFest

The thought of experiencing something new is often intimidating for most. There is a good chance that most Northern Michiganders haven’t experienced the electronic music dance scene. So here are a few pointers:

Relax: If you are in tune with popular culture (watch TV and go to the movies and sporting events) then you have already been exposed to electronic music and probably even found some internal desires to dance to it without realizing what it is that you have been listening to. Electronic music is blared out at sporting events during the breaks in the action. Several commercials use electronic music for their themes. Even the State of Michigan used electronic music in one of their promotional commercials. The music is often described as intelligent and hip. So just showing up to the CloveR Festival will give you a sense of “hipness,” but no guarantees on improving your intelligence.

Enjoy: Electronic/techno music is primarily instrumental and often “samples” songs that are part of the mainstream pop scene. Electronic music is created and recorded in a studio. Live in concert, a DJ transforms the recorded music (mixes it) by manipulating it with other recordings or visuals. The music is up-tempo and great for dancing.
Anyone can learn the current dance moves regardless of his or her age. CloveR Festival producer Carol Marvin said that the “younger set” love it when the “old-timers” come and show off “classic dances like the Charleston or the Hustle” to the techno tunes. “Don’t be surprised to see the youngsters add some new twists to the old dance moves,” Marvin added.

Where Is Madonna?: Mainstream pop stars like Madonna won’t be here, but she often samples electronic/techno music into her music. Even the great Eric Clapton has incorporated electronic mixes into his songs. Techno artists traditionally shrug off mainstream stardom and enjoy an “underground” following, making them in some cases as big if not bigger then some of today’s pop stars. Lack of lyrics and the formatted radio has kept the music from the mainstream airwaves. The CloveR Festival line-up is literally a who’s who of the industry’s best.

Comfortable Shoes: There is really no special clothing needed. This is Northern Michigan; wear what makes you feel com-fortable. Especially fabrics that don’t make you sweat (leave the leather at home). This music is going to want to make you get up and dance so comfortable shoes are a must, leave the high heels in the closet. This isn’t a fashion show this is a dance party. However, dancing is optional. The CloveR Festival will have an Espresso Bar on site with all sorts of cool drinks for those that just want to watch the fun.

“I am not a Christian”: That’s okay, festival organizers have said all are welcome. No one will know anyway.

Put the Game Boy Down: Want to be challenged? Want your kids to get off the sofa and experience technology at another level? Then the Clover Festival is a must. If your kids are addicted to video games and electronics then the Dance Dance Revolution will be a great new challenge and experience. The Festival’s Audio Lab will offer a unique opportunity for you and your kids to explore their artistic talents. Ever desired to be a DJ? Now is your chance.   View On Our Website
