Black Crowes Get “Stuck” With U.S. Tour
More Black Crowes news this week - the band have announced dates for their fall North American Stuck Inside Utopia Tour, during which they’ll play songs from their as-yet-untitled upcoming album as well as familiar Black Crowes songs from their extensive back catalog of tunes. In addition to the usual BC frontmen, brothers Chris and Rich Robinson, the band lineup this time around will also feature guitarist Luther Dickinson, keyboardist Adam MacDougall, bass player Sven Pipien, and drummer Steve Gorman. Dates will include stops in Asbury Park NJ (9/5), Virginia Beach (9/6), Burlington VT (9/17), Nashville (9/26), and Atlanta (10/3)...
U.S. network Ovation TV has teamed up with the BBC for a deal via which the highly-acclaimed and immensely popular Later... with Jools Holland show - which features musical guests in performance- will run on Ovation for the next 27 new episodes, getting a regular Thursday night, prime-time spot as of September 10. Since Later...launched in 1992 in the UK, it’s become a favorite of music fans around the world for its great mix of music and encouraging host, who is also a popular pianist and a former member of the band Squeeze. The 33rd run of the series will feature the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Fleet Foxes, Kings of Leon, Natalie Cole, The Killers, and The Streets...
Aussie rockers Jet are returning soon with their third album, Shaka Rock, this week, and they’re releasing the disc through their own Horrorshow Records/Five Seven Music, which they’ve managed to snag distribution for through EMI. You might’ve heard their first single, “She’s a Genius,” which hit radio a few weeks back; but more so than the single, the band is telling press how enthused they are that they’re now “100 percent in control” of their music career due to the new label/distribution setup...
And the legendary Whitney Houston made her comeback on September 1 with a new, as-yet-untitled album on Arista Records. Houston will be working with the likes of Akon, Sean Garrett, and will.i.am on the new album; Akon told press that “the voice is there” in reference to Houston’s ability to hit the high notes, and a duet with him, “Like I Never Left,” may be included on the new CD. Houston’s last album was way back in 2002, with the low-selling Just Whitney; the new album will be previewed and counted-down on the singer’s official website, www.whitneyhouston.com...
