Outcast was In at MTV Bash
Marking the first time in 20 years of MTV history that the MTV Video Music Awards wasnt held in New York City or Los Angeles, the shows Miami extravaganza saw Outkast and No Doubt as the big winners of the night. Outkasts Hey Ya! won the coveted Video of the Year award, as well as 3 other nods, while No Doubt snagged Best Pop Video and Best Group Video for Its My Life. The Viewers Choice Award went to Linkin Park, the MTV2 Award was grabbed up by Yellowcard, and the Best New Artist in a Video Award went to Maroon 5 for This Love. Also getting their very own shiny moonmen to take home were Jet, who won Best Rock Video (for Are You Gonna Be My Girl); Franz Ferdinand, who got the Breakthrough Video honors (for Take Me Out); and Black Eyed Peas, whose video for Hey Mama was honored for Best Choreography. Performers at the show included Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, The Polyphonic Spree, Jessica Simpson, and Outkast (who closed the show), plus a back-to-back trio performance from an energetic Jet, a tepid Hoobastank, and an enthusiastic Yellowcard...Scottish buzz band Snow Patrol, who were just nominated for the prestigious Shortlist Prize in England along with Franz Ferdinand, Wilco, and The Killers, are all set to embark on a rather extensive set of U.S. tour dates to help promote their album, Final Straw. Still mostly unknowns in the States (but not for long, if the swooning of the British and European press is any indication), Snow Patrol will make stops in over two dozen cities, including New York City (9/14), Toronto (9/17), Detroit (9/18), Chicago (9/20), Minneapolis (9/22), and Vancouver (9/28). See em now, before the buzz gets too big and the tickets get snowed - er, sold out...
The guilty-pleasure TV show The O.C., much like its predecessor, Beverly Hills 90210, is becoming well-known for having its characters chat up hip up-and-coming indie bands, and this next season is going to keep that one welcome plot point going strong. Last season saw an entire episode revolve around a performance by Rooney, and The O.Cs theme song, of course, is by Phantom Planet - next season will see the likes of Modest Mouse, The Killers, and The Walkmen making appearances at what will reportedly be the shows version of 90210s Peach Pit After Dark club - a similar club called The Bait Shop. Both The Walkmen and The Killers have already taped their segments, in which they each perform two songs...
Strata, who were recently forced to pull out of their tour with Nonpoint due to their singer (Eric Victorino) having throat problems, have shown that they definitely know how to recover from a mishap - they restructured their live show tour into a bowling tour (nope, thats not a typo). While Victorino is in NYC taking care of his voice, his bandmates are on the way back home to California, and will be stopping at bowling alleys along the way to bowl with fans, who will be able to obviously meet the band in person and might also win free CDs and other Strata swag. Bowling With Strata dates can be checked out on their website,
