Does Tammy Schuster communicate with angels & the dead?
By Rick Coates 10/26/09
Tammy Schuster lives in the woods between South Boardman and Fife Lake, a secluded area and what appears to be the perfect setting for a ghost whisperer. While Schuster knows there are skeptics to her talents, she has a long list of those who believe in her ability to communicate with people who have passed on.
The technical term is medium the ghost whisperer title was popularized by the TV show, said Schuster. There is no middle ground. people either believe me or they think I am crazy.
One of those on the believer side is Coby Archa, a star from the reality TV show Survivor.
I met Tammy through a charity event she did for troubled teens. She is an open book and we were sitting at a hotel one day and she just said, You know what? I can talk to angels and they are telling me something about you! said Archa. I was a believer in this sort of thing already. So I was intrigued and I asked her to do a reading.
Archa said she is positive that Tammy has special gifts to communicate with those who have passed on.
There is no way she could have had any details about my nine-year-old cousin who died in a car wreck or about my middle aged uncle who was gay and had passed on, said Archa. For her to have certain facts about the two biggest deaths in my life and that these two are my angels who were telling her things such as I was about to make a big move in my life and that I was about to have a major spiritual awakening -- which happened the next day at church with these troubled teens -- was only possible through her communicating with my loved-ones who had passed.
Schuster says she has had this gift for as long as she can remember but didnt understand it.
Look, when you hear voices you dont tell anyone, because society says you are crazy, said Schuster. As a kid I was always answering peoples questions before they would ask them. My parents were told by teachers and others that I simply was a kid with an over active imagination.
As she grew older she began to embrace her gift and started to explore it.
It was about 18 years ago just after my daughter died that I started to understand this gift. I didnt research it I just started using it, said Schuster. I would be standing in line or be with someone and I would start to hear voices and I would tell the person, look this is going to sound strange, and I would tell them what I was being told.
But Schuster -- who in addition to being a mother and wife, has worked as a restaurant manager and special events promoter -- has not pursued her ghost whisper abilities as a career.
I dont have a website or brochures. People come to me by word of mouth, said Schuster. I now get asked to do parties and others simply call me and ask that I do a reading for them.
Schuster says that people typically come to her because they want to reach out to a loved-one or friend who has passed away but she said it doesnt work that way.
I dont do séances where you try and reach out to a specific person who has passed and call them to come to you. I talk to people who have attached themselves to you, essentially your guardian angel or angels. You dont have a say on who from the past is watching over you at any given moment, said Schuster. How I understand it is that these angels come to you when you need them. So I carry on conversations with those angels and relay messages from them.
So you actually talk out loud to them?
I dont have to. I can communicate to them with my thoughts and I hear them speak to me in a regular voice, said Schuster. I speak out loud so that the person I am doing a reading for can hear what questions I am asking. Typically, the angel gives me information about the person that I would not know but them.
So are you actually able to see these angels?
No not like the TV show. I am able sometimes to see an aura around a person but never actually see the angel in a human form, said Schuster. What these angels do is give me descriptions of what they look like and then I share that.
It is that physical description that sold a woman named Tammie (she asked that her last name not be used).
Tammy (the medium) was new to the area and I had lived here my whole life and we had never met before so she couldnt have known anything about my past life, said Tammie. Well she said to me one day shortly after we met, there is a person very tall in your presence right now, a father-like figure next to you. he has a message for you. I was taken aback but I took her phone number and called her later that night. She told me this person had a skin condition. Well it was my grandfather; he had a skin disease -- there is no way she could have known this.
A LOUD CRASH
Tammie was intrigued and asked for more details.
She told me about a traumatic experience in my life from the 80s, something I have never told anyone about before. Then she said my angel was going to move something in the house right now. Just as she said it a loud crash came from my living room. Everyone was asleep in my house and these angels (artwork) that were hanging on the wall 10 feet up had slid down partially. I have believed her ever since.
For Tammy Schuster, her ghost whispering talents are not about whether people believe her or not, she lives with them every day and experiences the frustrations and joys of possessing them.
When Natalie Halloway came up missing I started hearing voices about who was responsible. I e-mailed authorities but they do not trust mediums or believe in us. But I have verification of providing names and even statements by those involved months before they were identified by authorities. So when what I had sent to them came true I thought they would call but I have yet to hear from anyone. I still get messages and was given another name of someone connected but trying to get someone to listen is the frustrating part of all of this, said Schuster. When I watch the news with my husband and someone is missing I say they will find his body by a river bank or she took off to Florida with her boyfriend and that is where they will find her. He doesnt get freaked out anymore by it, he just expects it.
SKEPTICS & BELIEVERS
As for the skeptics, Schuster recalls a woman who came to one of the parties that a friend was hosting.
I got a call from a woman who said she had heard about me and she wanted to have a party and have me come and do readings for her guests. Well everyone was excited, but the one person said this was all bunk and she wanted to go first to out me, said Schuster. Two minutes into her reading she was crying and she has been calling me ever since.
Schusters biggest challenge has never been finding believers in her talent, but rather being able to turn it off.
It is 24/7 and frustrating. I dont hug or touch people, said Schuster. About eight years ago I started researching how to shut it down. I have learned to now, otherwise it just becomes so overwhelming. Now my 13-year-old daughter is showing the signs of having this. I am working with her but letting her decide if she wants to pursue this ability or let it go. The choice is hers.
For the future, Schuster doesnt see herself setting up a storefront anywhere, she is happy being secluded in the woods raising her children.
We moved here a little over 10 years ago from Jackson because our son was starting to run with the wrong crowd, said Schuster. I am not out marketing this. People who want or need to find me eventually will and I leave it at that.
