Let’s Rock! The official Northern Express summer 2026 concert guide

Hundreds of shows happening across the North
By Ross Boissoneau | June 13, 2026

If it’s summer, it’s time for music. From tiny Elberta to Traverse City, Petoskey, Wolverine, and elsewhere, the various town halls and park, auditoriums, listening rooms, and rock halls all showcase the sounds of summer.

Are there big national acts coming through? Sure, there’s Interlochen and Great Lakes Center for the Arts. What about local favorites? Try Northport’s long-running Music In the Park and Tim Scully’s jazz and blues artists who move across the region. But truthfully, if we had to choose our favorite, it would be C, all the above (or in this case, all the below).

While this is an exhaustive list, it is not a comprehensive list. Bars and breweries, wineries and restaurants all offer their own slates of performers. There may be a band or venue missing and there are the inevitable cancellations and schedule changes, so make sure you check with the venue or artist before heading out.

Now kick back, grab a ticket, a blanket, or a lawn chair, and listen up.

Featured Artists

Jason Isbell (playing at Interlochen Center for the Arts)
Six-time Grammy-winning Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit blend country, folk, blues, punk rock, and the Muscle Shoals sound into something all their own. Since picking up mandolin at age six (his hands were too small for guitar), he’s become an iconic presence on the concert circuit. Isbell grew up in Alabama and was influenced by singer-songwriters like Bob Dylan, Neil Young, John Prine, and guitarists Leo Kottke and Michael Hedges. While his music traverses everything from Americana to Southern rock, his personal and heartfelt lyrics draw inspiration from his life and the lives of people in his region. His introspective lyrics and acoustic forays alongside blazing electric guitar make him one of the most unique and successful figures in the alt-country and singer/songwriter circles.

Garaj Mahal (playing at The Alluvion)
The funkiest of jam bands or the jammiest of funk bands? Garaj Mahal can comfortably lay claim to both. Critics have compared the group to Mahavishnu Orchestra, Brand X, and Return to Forever with a large helping of Sly Stone and James Brown. Don’t forget those side trips to Indian-style music, courtesy of guitarist Fareed Haque’s sitar-esque excursions. So yeah, a combo platter of funk, world music, and industrial-strength fusion is the band’s calling card. After a seven-year hiatus, Mahal mainstays Haque and bassist Kai Eckhardt returned to stages worldwide in 2018. These days the group includes those two founding members, along with Oz Ezzeldin on keyboards and drummer/percussionist Hassan Hurd.

Robin Lee Berry (playing at Lavender Hill Farm & Spirit of the Woods)
Lifelong Michigander Robin Lee Berry was born in Lansing, raised in Okemos, and began performing professionally in East Lansing clubs in the late 1970s. Studies at Suomi College in Hancock and Berklee College of Music led to her career in what might be called folk or Americana, but is really unclassifiable. Her music blends contemporary folk with jazz, blues, and elements of rock. She’s as comfortable fronting a big band or singing a capella with a vocal jazz ensemble as in small groups or performing solo. She’s recorded eight studio albums and performs around the area when she’s not running Freshwater Art Gallery & Concert Venue with her husband, Tony.

The Fabulous Horndogs (playing at UpBeat Cadillac & Northport Music in the Park)
Originally formed when saxophonist Newt Cole was told to put together a group to play for New Year’s Eve at the Empire Town Hall in 1995, in the 30 years since then the band has become one of the region’s favorite party bands. Cole passed away in 2023, but the band continues to go strong, led by the horns of Dell Knickerbocker and Billy Gauthier, with a rhythm section featuring founding members Mike Marois, Tim Wire, and Jim Murphy. With bassist Bob Wild in the fold, the group blends rock, reggae, r&b, N’Awlins funk, jazz, soul, and swing into a heady brew that gets people on their feet. “People start dancing as soon as we start to play,” says Gauthier, “and don’t stop until we’re done.”

Chris Botti (playing at Great Lakes Center for the Arts)
Grammy-winning trumpeter Chris Botti has collaborated with some of the biggest names on the planet, including Barbra Streisand, Lady Gaga, Buddy Rich, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Aretha Franklin, and many others. He toured for years with Paul Simon and later with Sting. His burnished tone has been featured on his own releases as well as recordings by the above and the likes of Steven Tyler, Andrea Bocelli, Herbie Hancock, Yo-Yo Ma—the list goes on. Botti’s own music similarly traverses territory from jazz to pop, rock, smooth jazz, and avant garde, as his work with Bruford Levin Upper Extremities attests. In concert Botti typically plays everything from jazz standards and pop covers to classical and cinematic music.

Seth Bernard (playing in Gaylord, Elberta, Manistee, Glen Arbor, Traverse City, and Cadillac)
Seth Bernard could well travel with a sign, “Will play for just cause.” The longtime troubadour is a fixture not only on the stages of the Midwest but in meetings, rallies, and other places where environmental causes take center stage. Bernard calls himself a music maker, cultural warrior, and water protector. He is the founder of the nonprofit Title Track, which is dedicated to building resilient social-ecological systems that support clean water, racial equity, and youth empowerment. He’s also the founder of Earthwork Music, and his label mates touch on some of the same folksy-Americana as Bernard. Comfortable with touching ballads, he’s also capable of scorching guitar work, blending rock with folk, electric with acoustic.
