Paddle for the Platte

Aug. 22, 2026

Are you really a northern Michigander if you’ve never paddled or floated down the Platte? For those of us who love this iconic river, there’s a way to give back on Friday, Aug. 28. Benzie Conservation District (BCD) has teamed up with Riverside Canoes for Paddle for the Platte, a family-friendly trip on the river from 9am-12:30pm with activities along the way. You’ll learn about the watershed, local flora and fauna, and the Department of Natural Resources’ salmon program in the Platte River. Riverside Canoes will donate 50 percent of all kayak and canoe rental for the day to the BCD—be sure to mention this when you arrive to pick up your gear! (Note: In the event of inclement weather, a rain day is scheduled for Sept. 4.) Get all the details and register at benziecd.org/paddle-for-the-platte.html.
