On Dec. 14, you may see green wreaths and red bows going up in cemeteries in your town. These are the efforts of the folks at Wreaths Across America, a national organization whose mission statement is “Remember the fallen. Honor those who serve. Teach the next generation the value of freedom.” One way they do this is to place wreaths on the graves of veterans around the holidays. Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey has been participating for over a decade, and over 1,750 veterans are laid to rest on their grounds. Their wreath-placing ceremony will be held at 10am on Dec. 14, with volunteers welcome to help. Donations can also be made through the end of the year to support this project.
