Foghorn Pub and Grill looks to new horizons

Sept. 7, 2005
New but still nautical is the theme
at Foghorn Pub & Grill, now under new management with an expanded menu, entertainment and wine list.
Foghorn is located at 12930 M-22, directly across from Elmwood Park
& Marina, just south of Cherrybend Road. Past patrons will recognize the cozy
dining room, surrounded by maroon walls lined with nautical artwork of lighthouses, sailboats, sunsets and the Mackinac Bridge. Outdoor seating overlooks the marina and West Bay, while a large, friendly bar dominates the south side of the windowed eatery. At the bar and at the tables, the staff is friendly, low key and responsive.
The setting hasn’t changed under the new leadership, but the menu has been revamped.
Look for more healthy alternatives and less fried foods on both the lunch and dinner menus. Among the new favorites are
White Navy Bean and Chicken Chili, Chicken Caprese featuring sautéed chicken breast topped with fresh basil, roma tomatoes and herb boursin cheese, New World Seafood Quesadillas, and Across the Bow Chicken Salad with dried cherries, gorgonzola cheese and cashews. Foghorn chefs use much locally grown, fresh produce including tomatoes from TLC Tomatoes in Suttons Bay, fresh herbs and vegetables from Leelanau Produce, asparagus from Norconk Farms in Empire and much more fresh fare.
Seafood has always been featured at Foghorn. This is the place to find fresh Michigan perch – you’ll tell the difference by the taste verses the more common frozen varieties. Fresh sea scallops, whitefish and salmon are also featured in such specialties as Seafood Pot Roast, Shrimp and Scallop Linguini and the Schooner Salad.
Pasta lovers will find much to love among the new entrees. The Lobster and Shrimp Linguini features squid ink pasta in a tomato cream sauce with a hint of black truffle oil. Other choices include Vegetarian Penne, Linguini Roma and Foghorn Filet Stroganoff.
Finish the meal with one of MacNaughton’s signature homemade desserts like Captain’s Tiramisu, Crème Brulee, Foghorn’s Hot Fudge Cream Puff, or Strawberry Shortcake topped with white Godiva chocolate.

Complementing the menu, the wine selection has been expanded with many Leelanau County wineries represented by the glass and the bottle. Entertainment has been added with acoustic guitar by Adam Percy on Fridays and piano with Cameron McCardel on Sundays. Perhaps the most significant change is the elimination of smoking.

Foghorn Pub & Grille is located at 12930 M-22 just outside the Traverse City limits in Leelanau County. Restaurant hours are 11 a.m.-10 p.m. on Mondays-Thursdays, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and Noon - 9 p.m. on Sundays. Carryout is available. 231-932-8993.
