Call for Winter Traditions from Readers

Oct. 17, 2026

Hello, dear readers! We’re putting together a special story in a few months, and we need your help! As colder, shorter days approach, many of us can feel a little gloomy (or downright seasonal affective disorder SAD). We’re hoping you can share some of your favorite winter traditions to inspire your friends and neighbors to get through—or dare we say, embrace the changing of the seasons. Give us your best tips for sisu (determination), hygge (cozy), and other non-Scandinavian terms that help you see the beauty in winter. These traditions can be indoor, outdoor, solo, with groups, and as creative as you’d like! To participate, send an email to info /at/ northernexpress /dot/ com no later than Dec. 1, 2026, with the subject line “Winter Traditions” and give us a quick 50-100 words about your favorite tradition, plus your name and city/town of residence. These will run in our Dec. 14 issue!
