The Manitou’s Northwoods Crispy Duck

By Anna Faller | June 20, 2026

Summer tradition awaits at The Manitou Restaurant in Honor, where dining amid Sleeping Bear Dunes gets the seasonal cherry treatment. Enter: the Northwoods Crispy Duck! The perfect rich-but-lighter bite to showcase some cherry good sauce (ingredients: northern Michigan cherries, cinnamon, clove, and a splash of tart lemon and orange juices), this dish features half of a slow-roasted duck, which gets crisp and golden in the fryer to finish, served alongside a base of long-grain rice and accompanied by a brimming side of cherry-packed sauce for dunking, drizzling, or (let’s face it) savoring by the spoonful. A little sweet, a little savory, and—dare we say it—pure Michigan, it’s the perfect plate to kick off the summer! Feed the first of many cherry cravings at 4349 N Scenic Hwy in Honor. themanitourestaurant.com
