Getting Your Work on the Silver Screen

April 11, 2026

Great Lakes filmmakers, take note! The Soo Film Festival, held in downtown Sault Ste. Marie Sept. 16-20, has put out their call for entries. The festival “seeks to showcase the work of independent and emerging filmmakers, especially from the Great Lakes” region, which means those of you here in northern Michigan. (After all, their motto is “Great Lakes, Great Movies!”) Entries will be accepted for “[d]ocumentary and all genres of fiction, feature and shorts” online through the platform FilmFreeway. The submission deadline is May 10 with a $20 entry fee, though late entries will be accepted through June 1 with a $25 fee. All selected films will be announced the week of Aug. 3. To learn more about the festival, head to soofilmfestival.org, and submit your film entries at FilmFreeway.com/SooFilmFestival.
