Sammich N‘ SudsOffers Stress-Free Dining
By Kristi Kates 9/14/09
Sitting amidst the bright colors of their new restaurant, with its orange and yellow walls, dark cabinetry, and friendly atmosphere, Lora Muethal and Jay Higdon have a mission in mind. We want to make people forget the stresses of their lives for a moment and enjoy really good food at reasonable prices, Lora Muethel says. This is the philosophy behind their new Boyne City eclectic sandwich shop, Sammich N Sudz.
Jay and I know that dining out costs a fortune in this economy, Muethel continues, and we understand that in a stressful environment like today, people turn to comfort foods. Our ability to understand this has encouraged us to create sandwiches out of the best of those comfort foods.
Sammich N Sudz offers over 30 sandwiches to choose from on 10 different breads; the Muethels point out they believe in supporting the community that they live in, and so they use only the freshest of items, most of them grown or produced right here in Michigan.
Our vegetarian entrees are a hit, Muethel explains. Theres an Oriental Wrap filled with marinated sauteed tofu; a Walnut-Oatmeal Burger, and a Sauteed Salad, to mention a few. We also have a Monte Cristo that is not deep fried, a Garlic Chicken and Broccoli Sandwich, and a Smokehouse Steak Sandwich to die for. Along with the unusual items, we also have a good old Philly Steak Sandwich with Cheese Whiz, and an Original Coney Dog.
DELIVERY SERVICES
Their approach of getting more for your money also extends to their customer services, which the Muethels believe will help to set them apart, simply by accommodating their diners needs.
In a resort area, it is hard to find a good inexpensive place to eat, so this is what we offer to Northern Michigan, Muethel says, we also offer marina delivery, beverages and food delivered right to your slip with no delivery fee. We are boaters as well, so we understand the hassle - we also deliver to area campsites and businesses.
Though Sammich N Sudz only opened this past June, the Muethels are already gaining loyal customers.
One interesting customer was a marathon runner, Muethel says, he stopped in and ate three of our jumbo-sized sandwiches all in one sitting. We also see repeat customers - breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the same day. Our vegetarian customers are always interesting, too - they offer us many wonderful ideas for meat-free sandwiches.
They plan to keep Sammich N Sudz open all winter, and are arranging some special offers for the holidays; on-deck are ideas like Thanksgiving turkey dinners to go, a Halloween package, and a football pack to go, as well. The details are slated to be posted on their new website, www.sammich-n-sudz.com.
We just wanted a place to express our creativity through our passion for cooking, and our desire to make people happy, Muethel says.
Sammich N Sudz is located at 202 South Lake Street in Boyne City, telephone 231-582-1800. They are open Sun-Weds 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thurs-Sat 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
