The Queens Head’s Old King Walnut
Bottoms Up
June 6, 2026
Say that drink title five times fast! The Queens Head Wine Pub in Cheboygan is open for the summer season, with pub fare, “royal libations,” and picks from “the queen’s wine cellar.” But one of their most popular beverages is the Old King’s Walnut, a twist on an Old Fashioned that puts the almond-y, nutty sweetness of black walnut front and center. The cocktail was the bestseller for the pub in 2025 and was crafted by bar manager Ashley Nola. She uses Woodford Reserve as her choice of bourbon, while her go-to amaretto is Disaronno Originale. The remaining ingredients include simple syrup, black walnut bitters, aromatic bitters, and a candied walnut garnish. Raise a toast to salute your favorite queen (or king) at 250 N Huron St. in Cheboygan. thequeensheadwinepub.com
