Make a Detour to Cadillac
Feb. 3, 2008
It pays to be popular, and such is the case for Detour, a bluegrass band which got a call back this year to wind up the Gopherwood Concert season in Cadillac. Each year, the folks at Gopherwood Concerts consider whether there are any acts from the previous season that fans just cant wait to see again, says Paul Brown, publicist. Sure enough, it happened this year as patrons made it known that Detour bluegrass is one such act.
The band performs original progressive bluegrass tunes and traditional favorites this Saturday, Feb. 9 at 8 p.m. at the Elks Club at 122 S. Mitchell St. in downtown Cadillac.
Hailing from Northern Michigan, Detour has been making waves and raves on the local acoustic music scene for the past year. The band includes:
Scott Zylstra on flattop guitar, a veteran of a number of local bands, including the Porkypines.
Jeff Rose on mandolin hails from eastern Kentucky originally. He toured for over 20 years with Iowa Rose, the High Canyon Ramblers and the
Porkypines.
Zak Bunce on bass has been singing and playing music since an early age in one of Michigans leading roots family bands, Lake Effect, and with his sister, folk artist Rachael Davis.
Mike Sumner performs on
five-string banjo and is the winner of
numerous competitions on the
instrument.
Peter Knupfer on fiddle has a background as a historian.
Detour recently released their first CD, Radio Hill, featuring a mix of original and traditional songs.
Tickets for the 8 p.m. show are $10 for adults and $5 for students in advance, or $12 and $6 at the door. Advance tickets are available at Persnickety in downtown Cadillac, or by calling 231-775-2813.
