The last night of the National Cherry Festival is one of the great summertime spectacles in Northern Michigan. After a week of musical entertainment, the Festival always closes out its celebration with a great band and the best fireworks display in Northern Michigan.
This year is no exception. Sure, it would be nice to have the real Pink Floyd perform, but having one of the top tribute bands is the second best thing. Floyd’s music is the perfect transition into the fireworks show. After all, Pink Floyd’s music and live shows were just as about the visual as they were about the sound.
Ten bucks to purchase a V-Pass for the week makes the National Cherry Festival still the best music value in Northern Michigan. This is a transition year for the Festival and its Bay Side Entertainment Stage. While nothing to sneeze at this year, look for bigger name talent next year as Festival organizers change their business model to appeal to changing festival trends across the country.
Think Floyd USA (not the same band traveling under the same name in Europe) will cover material from Piper at the Gates of Dawn through Division Bell (essentially the whole Floyd catalogue from 1967 to 1994). They will perform plenty of material from Floyd’s most commercially productive years of 1972-79 when the band released their albums Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, and Animals and The Wall. Their album Dark Side Of The Moon spent 1,500 weeks (29 years) on the Billboard album charts - an obvious all-time record.
In a press release, the band Think Floyd made this statement: “The evening will include dynamic sound effects, original video projections, dazzling choreographed lighting design, full laser production and nine of USA’s finest musicians. You will “Think” Floyd was right there playing in front of you.”
