Violins of Hope
Stuff We Love
April 18, 2026
Israeli luthier Amnon Weinstein and his son Avshi are on a mission to restore violins that survived the Holocaust. One of their violins will be on the stage here in northern Michigan with the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra on Saturday, April 25, for their Violins of Hope performance at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts. Per a press release from GLCO, music from the show includes Auerbach’s T’filah (Prayer), Prokofiev’s Overture on Hebrew Themes, Balgley’s Klezmer Concerto, Shostakovich’s String Symphony, and “John Williams’ haunting music from Schindler’s List.” GLCO’s music director, Libor Ondras, adds that “One violin featured in the program survived a concentration camp, and its voice today stands as a powerful symbol of resilience, remembrance, and the enduring human spirit.” A pre-concert lecture starts at 6pm and the concert at 7pm.
