The 2.5 mile run leads into the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, where competitors face a 100 yard climb up the infamous sand dune, bank left around a marker, run a short sprint along the top of the dune, & then make another left for a run down the dune face. The 17-mile bike portion passes through downtown Glen Arbor, along Crystal River, Big Glen Lake, Inspiration Point, Big & Little Glen Lake, & a tunnel of trees. The 2.5-mile paddle sets off across Little Glen Lake. Just before shore, athletes dismount in the water & sprint for the finish line.
