Pellston Trailhead Facility Opens

Oct. 3, 2026

North Western State Trail hikers and bikers (and once winter comes, snowmobilers) now have a new haven between Alanson and Mackinaw City. At the end of September, the Village of Pellston announced the opening of the new Pellston Trailhead Facility (6291 W. Main St.) that will be open year round. The facility includes a covered pavilion, public restrooms, parking, and a drinking water station. Per a press release from the village, the project was made possible through funding from “the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Wenger Foundation & Petoskey-Harbor Springs Community Foundation along with in-kind contributions from the Village of Pellston and the DDA.” The North Western State Trail is 32 miles in length and connects Petoskey, Alanson, Pellston, and Mackinaw City.
